Shannon Potts of Reliant LifeWorks discussed the services available at their accredited compounding pharmacy, one of two in Spokane. They offer a full spectrum of non-sterile and low/medium risk sterile compounding at this time, so ophthalmics and injectables are somewhat limited. The pharmacy is located at Division and Foothills.
Dr. Whipps presented the budget for 2016-17 and a financial statement for 2015-6. The proposed budget shows approximately $12K in the general fund for operation of the association and a like amount in the CE fund for scholarships and other charitable purposes. Dr. Meredeth McEntire has assumed the duties of the treasurer as of July 2016.
Dr. McElroy moved and Dr. Wood seconded that the association donate 5 coats at a cost of $175 to the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine’s White Coat Ceremony. Motion passed.
Dr. Hunter reminded members to consider nominating a peer for the WSU CVM Veterinary Alumni Award. Nominees must be WSU grads from the 2011 or earlier classes who have made outstanding contributions in clinical, diagnostic or other practice services. Dr. Terry Brown was a recent (and very deserving) recipient. Dr. Hunter announced the passing of Dr. Howard Miller, former owner of Millwood Animal Hospital.
Dr. Carter stated that a cat was seen at his practice within the past week which had been exposed to a bat which subsequently tested positive for rabies. (The cat was unvaccinated. Scary stuff.)
Dr. Hunter announced that the association has elected to honor Dr. Dick Whipps and Dr. Linda Wood by offering scholarships to students at the WSU CVM. In recognition of Dr. Wood’s years coaching in the clinical communication program, her scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding student in that program. Dr. Whipps will specify the criteria for his.
Dr. Hunter thanked Dr. Brenda Day for taking over responsibility for the winter meeting as of 2017.
